Do I Need a Firmware Upgrade?

At Rebel, firmware updates are an important part of how we keep your connection fast, secure, and fully optimised—without you needing to lift a finger.

Our network is designed to constantly optimise itself. As part of this, we automatically push firmware updates to your equipment to improve performance, stability, and security.

  • Updates are pushed automatically every night at around 3:00am

  • In most cases, you won’t notice anything at all

  • No action is needed from you

This is all part of our behind-the-scenes technology working to give you the best possible experience.

Can firmware updates ever fail?

Like any technology, firmware updates can occasionally fail. When this happens, your equipment may remain on an older firmware version.

The good news is:

  • We run regular checks and scripts to detect this

  • If we spot an issue, our team will proactively reach out to update your firmware

When should I contact support?

If you notice any of the following, it’s a good idea to get in touch:

  • You feel your firmware may be out of date

  • You see failed optimisations in the Plume Home app

  • Your service isn’t performing as expected (devices slow to connect)

Our support team will be happy to check and update your firmware for you.

What does a firmware update feel like?

A manual firmware update is quick and simple:

  • Our team triggers a remote update

  • Your service will briefly disconnect for up to 5 minutes

Once the update is complete, we recommend:

  1. Fully unplugging your router

  2. Waiting 30 seconds

  3. Plugging it back in

This ensures your line fully refreshes.

What happens after the update?

Within 24 hours, you should notice the full benefits of the update as your home network re-optimises.

This includes:

  • Your router

  • Rebel SuperPods

  • Overall Wi‑Fi performance across your home
