Your IP address: why it matters and what we do differently
What is carrier-grade NAT?
Some ISPs are running out of IPv4 addresses. To get around this, they use a technique called carrier-grade NAT (CGNAT), where up to 10 or more customers are forced to share a single public IP address. This means your internet traffic is grouped together with your neighbours', and if anyone on that shared address gets flagged for abuse, triggers a gaming ban, or gets blocked by a streaming service, everyone sharing that IP can be affected — even if they did nothing wrong. It can also cause problems with port forwarding, VPNs, and online gaming.
We don't do that.
Every customer on our network gets their own dedicated IPv4 address. No sharing, no risk of being caught out by someone else's behaviour, and no hidden limitations.
Dynamic vs static: what's the difference?
While your IP is dedicated to you, there are two ways it can be assigned:
- Dynamic IP - your address may change each time your router reboots or your connection re-establishes. This is perfectly normal and works fine for everyday use.
- Static IP - available as an optional product for £2.50/per month. Your address is fixed and never changes, no matter how many times you reboot. Ideal for remote access, self-hosting, or any service that needs a consistent, permanent address.
